The Need to Educate Organizations and Employees about ADHD
The next chapter in my book is about “ADHD in the Workplace”. This will be one of my favorites because of how important it is to me that both employees and managers understand how to structure work environments to suit the needs of all workers no matter what their operating style or brain type.
Success or failure for many workers can depend on how well informed their boss is on this subject. I help workers learn how to advocate for what they need in the workplace so they can reliably succeed. I help supervisors and managers learn to feel better about themselves and the roles they play in the lives of those they manage. I show them how they can become exemplary bosses and gain recognition when they learn how to get the best from every one of the people they supervise.
There is a greater need for this type of intervention and training in the work place due to the statistical fact that many of those in management, as well as those they manage, are not succeeding in their roles. If human capital is as important as corporate America says it is, there is clearly a breakdown of purpose here. The good news is that it’s not that hard to fix the problem when you begin with some good old fashioned consciousness-raising.
